Art therapy for children

Art therapy is a therapeutic and developmental method involving creativity and art.

When you have thoughts like these: I can’t cope, I don’t know how to do it, I have no control over anything: art therapy can help.

Art therapy allows non-verbal (without the use of words) communication with oneself and others. It is ideal especially when we have difficulty speaking about ourselves, our dreams, needs, problems and emotions. Facilitates better internal integration with oneself and with others. Allows you to get to know yourself better. Helps you discover your strengths, so you can use them and develop them.

Artistic activity itself is not the end goal. Instead, it is the improvement of a person’s quality of life and his or her subjective development.

For who?

For children who:

  • have difficulty expressing themselves and their emotions with words alone
  • are shy or withdrawn, displaying difficulties in relationships with peers and adults
  • experience a variety of difficulties related to, for example; hyperactivity, emotional tension, shyness, high sensitivity, inability to express emotions, difficult experiences, health problems, developmental problems.

What are the benefits?

  • The child can choose the materials and colors they want to work: this increases the use of their senses.
  • It helps to release and unwind built up emotions. With the right techniques and methods, negative thoughts have a chance to be changed by the act of  role playing and creating.
  • Can develop and increase creativity in the child.

How is it done at TUTU?

All classes are conducted to specific age groups and are tailored to the specific needs of the participants.

Artistic talents are not necessary to participate in classes (No one judges the aesthetic value of the work, but they are an excellent tool for discovering things about yourself and better communication). In art therapy, the process of creation itself is important, not the end result. We do not judge the work in terms of aesthetic qualities, but the very process of its creation – from the idea, through the sketch, to the final version.
